The string cover can be folded back for tuning.
Wooden battens are inserted in matching wool felt sleeves with tabs on the ends for easy removal for cleaning. These battens act as supports resting on the harp so the cover does not touch the strings. The cover is not attached to the piano but simply lies in place.
